Approaching 80 years young, Pat Fisher starts her morning at about 5am. She has to feed Lily the dog, then head outside to take care of the many educational birds on her property. The birds have their story why they have come to call The Feather, their permanent home. Most were injured in some fashion, whether unable to fly or one particular instance of having damaged vision (not a big deal, uness you're an owl).
Ms Harvey, above, is a free roaming Great Horned Owl, that had been rehabbed and set free many years ago. She returns however to The Feather, to nest on the property. I guess you always know where home is.
My wife Kim and I met Pat, when she was at my fathers home, trying to band some resident owls that were held up in a duck house. Being a fan of our sister website Wolf River Cam, we had a lot to talk about. As the conversation turned to her rehabilitation efforts, it was clear to see that Pat not only cares for the birds because she admires their species, but she believes it is the right thing to do. Now, Ms Harvey comes to Live Deer Camera for a couple reasons. 1) it is entertaining and as we get closer to December, you will see her frequent the nest and ultimately lay eggs (we hope). The 2nd reason Ms Harvey is being broadcast live, is to bring exposure to The Feather and hopefully enable Pat to continue playing an important role in the lives of injured birds.
This spring, The Feather is projected to cease operation. Pat will have exhausted ever possible financial option she has to pay for feed and care for the current residents of The Feather or any that come through the gate for rehab. When I asked Pat what would happen to the birds at The Feather, she simply replied with "I don't know."
We love to watch the wildlife in real time, just like you all do. We don't charge anyone that visits, and do are best to keep the video running, and looking good. We appreciate you visiting and sharing our website with your friends and family. We are asking for you to just consider supporting Pat's efforts. Donations, volunteering or whatever, are all things that could help keep The Feather keeping on. I begged Pat to establish a PayPal account for any good will that might come their way, that is posted below and above.
Thank you for your time and always, thank you for watching.
